This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on the Employr website (www.employr.co.uk), the Employr web app (app.employr.co.uk) and the Employr mobile apps. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy.
The short version
- We only use cookies and storage that the service needs to work, keep you signed in securely, or remember settings you've chosen.
- We don't use advertising cookies, tracking cookies or third-party marketing pixels.
- Our website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It doesn't set cookies or use your browser's storage.
- Because everything we use is essential or something you asked for, we don't show a cookie banner. If we ever add optional cookies, we'll ask for your consent first.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. "Similar technologies" here means browser local storage, which works the same way but stays on your device and isn't sent to us automatically.
Cookies in the Employr web app (app.employr.co.uk)
| Name | Purpose | Type | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
session | Keeps you signed in. Holds a signed sign-in token and can't be read by page scripts (HttpOnly). | Strictly necessary | Until you sign out or close the browser. The token inside it expires after 7 days at most. |
csrf_token | Protects forms and account actions from cross-site request forgery. | Strictly necessary | Until you close the browser |
employr_oauth_state | Used only when you sign in or sign up with Google or Apple. It checks that the sign-in response really belongs to your request. | Strictly necessary | 10 minutes |
employr_dashboard_theme | Remembers your company's dashboard theme and colours so pages load in the right style. | Preference (something you chose) | 1 year |
Local storage in the web app
The web app also keeps some information in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us unless it's part of an action you take.
| What | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Theme cache | Shows your company's branding straight away while the page loads |
| Dashboard layout | Remembers the order, size and position of the dashboard panels you've arranged |
| Notification state | Remembers which notifications you've already seen |
| Recently viewed pay breakdowns | Speeds up getting back to pay breakdowns you've opened recently |
| Offline clock-in queue | If you clock in or out without a connection, the record (with its time and, if your employer has turned it on, your location) is kept on the device until it can be sent. It's removed once it's sent. |
You can clear local storage in your browser settings. If you clear it before a queued clock-in or clock-out has been sent, that record will be lost.
The Employr website (www.employr.co.uk)
The website doesn't set its own cookies. To count page views and check page performance we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it doesn't set cookies, use local storage or build a profile of you across sites. It gathers basic, aggregated information such as the page visited, the referring site, the browser type and the country. See Cloudflare's privacy policy at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.
Payments (Stripe)
When a company admin subscribes or manages billing, they're sent to pages hosted by Stripe (checkout.stripe.com and billing.stripe.com). Stripe sets its own cookies there to process payments and prevent fraud. Those cookies come under Stripe's cookie policy: https://stripe.com/cookies-policy/legal.
Google and Apple sign-in
If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, you'll briefly visit their sign-in pages, and they may set their own cookies under their own policies.
Mobile apps
The Android and iOS apps don't use browser cookies to track you. They keep sign-in details and a random installation ID in the device's secure storage so they can keep you signed in and let you sign out of a device. Fingerprint and Face ID unlock happens entirely on your device, and Employr never receives your biometric data.
Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the strictly necessary cookies, you won't be able to sign in to the web app. If you delete the preference cookie, your theme will reset until the page reloads it.
Changes
If we change the cookies we use, we'll update this policy. We'll ask for your consent before using any cookie that isn't essential.
